True innovation comes from true influence

This is another way of saying, it doesn’t matter how good your idea is, if you you can’t get buy-in from other people, if other people don’t like you or take you seriously.

Ideas don’t exist in a vacuum.

Then again, a lot of people like to waffle on about how ideas don’t really matter, that it’s execution that is key.

Well, maybe. The guy who’s good at the creative, innovative, genius part and the guy who’s good at the boring, managerial part are rarely the same person. The two jobs require different wiring altogether. One is high risk with possible exponential rewards, one is steady with incremental rewards. Both have their pros and cons, but both need each other. Somebody’s got to run the operation, somebody has to move the culture forward. The market needs both.
