Turriff is
a lovely little inland farming centre with some impressive shops, buildings
and gardens, a few miles to the south of Banff.
It is a bustling town boasting of having been the capital centre for
a pictish prince.
History is no stranger to the area for an eleventh century castle can
be seen quite near, and, a battle between the Covenanters and
Royalists was fought at Turriff in the year 1639. At nearby
Hatton, Craigston and Delgatie there are more castles to visit.
A Heritage Museum is situated in the town itself and is of great interest.
Every year Turriff
holds one of Europe's major agricultural shows and games with the pipe
bands being an exciting attraction.
A competative golf
course is on hand in the town area to challenge the people who think
that skelping a poor wee white ba' is great fun. Other attractions are
the prospects of a good days' fishing, or some leisurely bowling, and,
if you really want to exert yourself a game of tennis.
For the kids there's a park known as the 'Den' which has a boating pond
among others.
