Spean Bridge,
is a busy little place nowadays, for holidaymakers can indulge in a
variety of pursuits all emanating from this scenic village. It is sited
on the junction of roads leading to Inverness
by the direct Loch Ness route and the Strathspey road
through Newtonmore to Inverness,
and, the road leading into the Grampian Highland
Region.
The area is awesome
and typifies the rugged land of that breed of men we know as Highlanders.
Perhaps its greatest claim to fame is that this is the country in which
our Commando Units were honed into a fearsome fighting force
at the time of the Second World War. A monument stands proudly,
quite near to the village, overlooking the landscape on which they trained.
These were tough men and we should never forget the daring and bravery
they epitomised.
