Mallaig, fishing port, ferry terminal, rail terminal and major tourist attraction sitting on the West Coast overlooking the sea route to the Isles.

This is where the Highlands end as it were and the Isles begin, for if you wish for some romance in your life, take a ferry out onto the water and head for Skye, Eigg, Rum, and Muck or further for an adventure, which you will never forget. Remember the song 'over the sea to Skye' then this is where to leave from.

If you like the thought of a thrillingly scenic journey on board a real steam train then start from here on a trip down to Fort William or further. For the nostalgic among you this is a magic experience.

If you want a day at the beach then the 'White Sands of Morar' are a must for you for nowhere in the world can compare with these beaches and I have that on the good word of not a few world travellers.

If you want to explore Mallaig itself then why not try the Heritage Centre and the Mallaig Marine World Centre for a very interesting time.

For the angler there's plenty of fishing and the golfer can get in a few strokes along the road at Arisaig. Boating is an attraction of the area for short but exciting trips.

Loch Morar
to the south is the reputed home of a monster who might just be related to Nessie the inhabitant of Loch Ness.
