Lochmaddy,
main town of North Uist Island of the Hebridean chain is also
a ferry port for ferries to Uig on Skye.
The village and harbour is typical of sea communities with the buildings
giving off that artistic aura from which many a wonderful painting has
evolved.
The village has a few shops which are the centre of the island gatherings for all types of services and news. In the village there is a museum of great interest, and, the many exhilarating walks around the area are a boon for walkers and ramblers alike. |

Fishing for the
angling fraternity is excellent with sea, loch or river available. Boats
are available for hire for fishing or just plain fun. Cycling is also
extremely popular and is another great way of seeing the land. There are many heritage and historical sites to be seen and investigated, so, using the village as a starting point, get out there and discover the delights of the island. Some of the other smashing places to visit or stay are Newton ferry, Grenitote, Clachan, Malaclete, Balranald, Langass, Baleshare and Carinish all with stories to tell and sights to see. |
