Lochinver, another of the fishing communities on the west coast which enhance the scenery with the colourful houses so distinctive of that breed of people.

Traditionally these are hardy people with a community spirit which has been lost to society in general, and they have had to be that way, for the fishing peoples of these Islands know tragedy and loss only too well.

Having said that, they are lovely people to know and talk to, for, once they get to know you, and they need to know you first, you become one with them.

The tales of the sea just flow endlessly from them that one ends up in sheer awe at the bravery of those hardworking folk.

The famous Highland Stoneware Centre and the Assynt Visitor Centre are a must to see, for the expanding of the mind, on the old ways of the area.

There are castles, museums and ancient sites to wander over and nature trails galore to explore.

Places like Achiltibuie, Achnahaird, Achmelvich, Clachtoll, Clashnessie, Culkein and Drumbeg are just sitting there in all their splendour, waiting to display themselves for your benefit.

This is great country and the makings of a terrific holiday.

Travel is by bus, coach or car.
For the tourists from abroad the nearest airports are Inverness with a connection to Lochinver by bus or coach, Glasgow and Edinburgh both connect to Inverness by air, rail, bus or coach, and on as above.
