Laurencekirk

Town

Laurencekirk is the main town in the old region of the Mearns, that area which effectively separated the Eastern Highlands from the Southern and Central Belts of Scotland.
This was traditionally the key point or gateway into the Northern lands for invading armies. In Macbeths' time this was a loyal region as was most of Scotland for his seventeen-year reign. However on his retreat he was pursued through this area till he was forced to turn and fight at Lumphanan, where he lost his life and Scotland a good King, not a few miles to the north

Today Laurencekirk is a busy little town in good farming country and is the ideal starting point for some countryside exploration. To the south lies St.Cyrus with it's informative nature reserve where children can take in and enjoy nature's gifts'.
