Lairg, the sheep capital of Europe, the place where thousands of the beasts are bought and sold, with buyers coming from all parts, at the annual sales. I'm told that more sheep are sold here in one day than in the whole of Europe.
It's a sleepy little place surrounded by mountains, hills, moors and lochs, making it a very attractive village.
The local Industry is made up of crofting, sheep and cattle farming, tourism and a little food processing.

Ferrycroft Visitor Centre is great for the natural and archaeological aspects of life in the Highlands.

Shin Falls are well worth a visit to see the salmon leap upstream against what looks like the impossible, and, for the very interesting Visitor Centre.
Crafts workshops can be found all around the district and falconry displays are also on hand.
With all the water around there's lots of fishing to be had and the wildlife is there to be seen if you fancy good walks around the area. The rail journey between Inverness and Lairg is a must, for the views can be spectacular.

For Eats the Hotels, Restaurants and Cafes provide good fayre.
Hotel, Guesthouse, Caravan and Camping facilities are available.

Travel is by rail, bus, coach or car.
For the tourists from abroad the nearest airports are Inverness with a connection to Lairg by rail, bus or coach, Wick with a connection to Lairg by rail, bus or coach. Glasgow and Edinburgh both connect to Inverness and Wick by air, rail, bus or coach and on as above.
