Kyleakin the village across the water from Lochalsh was the first port of call on reaching the island before the new bridge was built and in service. It's a bonny place nestling just to the south of the bridge overlooking the narrows where much activity takes place in the waters there.

The ruins of ancient Castle Moil can be viewed as it sits on an outcrop that juts out into the bay reminding us of the sometimes-violent past of the area.
There's a well used Hostel in the village that has served many visitors over the years plus some smashing guesthouses to chose from.

The village sitting on the narrows provides an opportunity for some good fishing and for the more energetic some good walks. Cycling is another good way to see the area. Golf can be had in the near vicinity.

From Kyleakin the east coast road takes one to Broadford and then on to Portree the main town of Skye. To the south and west the road runs on to Armadale the ferry port for the small islands of Rum, Eigg, Canna and Muck. Armadale is also the home of the Clan Donald.

With the bridge now in use and most traffic heading north without stopping, the village is now a quiet little haven for those of a more laid back nature and the ideal starting point for exploring the island.

For eats the local hostelries provide good fayre.
Hotels, guesthouses, caravan and camping sites are available.

Travel is by bus or car.
For the tourists from abroad the nearest airports are Inverness and Glasgow and on by rail, bus or coach.
