D. Lawrence BSc (Hons), DHP, HPD, Dip. CAH, Dip. (Erk) Hyp.
Master NLP and Meridian Therapy Practitioner is now based
based in Linlithgow, Central Scotland. Practising at Mannerston,
overlooking the River Forth with the famous bridges in sight,
it is a magical location. Set in the West Lothian countryside,
you will find yourself surrounded by nature. Discreet, far
from the maddening crowds and yet easily accessible from the
M9 motorway (See location Page) to the central belt and main
cities of Scotland, entrancing Mannerston offers a unique
therapy and training base. If you appreciate big skies and
being in nature you will love the open views of Mannerston.
After
practising since 2000 at the famous Health Works Complementary
Health Centre in Forres John has now moved to Central Scotland
to expand his services there. He still holds a monthly session
in the North for specialised services such as phantom limb
pain control and for complex issues that require expert intervention,
such as trauma. Whilst practising in Forres he quickly gained
recognition as a very gifted therapist and had a client base
extending from Inverness in the west to Aberdeen and beyond
in the east (a distance of over a 100 miles) although he has
worked with clients from all over the U.K. and abroad for
specific issues. He is a member of the National Hypnopsychotherapy
Council, the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the National
Guild of Hypnotists.
He
was awarded "The Researcher of the Year Award, 2002"
for his work on phantom limb pain and amputees by the latter
organisation and holds senior clinician status with that body.
He is a former Research Director within the NCH. He is an
Accredited Hypnotherapy Supervisor with the NCH. He is a volunteer
clinical hypnotherapist with the National Phobics Society.
He is on the Register of Approved Gastrointestinal Psychotherapists
and Hypnotherapists helping to relieve ailments of the digestive
system (IBS) and (IBD) etc.
At one time he was one of only two Scottish expert advisors
on the Advisory team serving on the Prince of Wales's Foundation
for Integrated Health, looking at the integration of complementary
therapies in to the NHS. He is a former director and chair
of Holistic Health Care Ltd a Scottish charity working to
promote education, research and the relief of sickness in
a Holistic manner.
Here
he explains why he is so enthusiastic about hypnosis as a tool
for healing:
"For
those of us who meet our own personal Waterloo during the course
of this lifetime" then our need for someone to show us
the way can be quite desperate. We search frantically for emotional
rescue..
Modern
living can bring about many events that throw an individual
into a period of uncertainty and doubt. Issues such as bereavement,
divorce, accident, assault, redundancy, work place stress, unhappy
childhood, prolonged illness or poor self-value can cause this.
Perhaps
events and personal history conspire to threaten our self-belief
and lead us to a feeling of despair about life. At times like
this then we can feel our emotions taking the lead in our lives.
Previous known emotions like contentment, joy and feelings of
safety can be knocked out of the way. Anger, resentment, disappointment
and fear just come up from nowhere and dominate our thoughts.
Emotions are not rational so self-exhortation or the exhortations
of family to pull ourselves together just don't do the trick
anymore. It is at these times we need access to a lifeline.
Hypnotherapy will lead you to the
best physician, counsellor and therapist you are ever likely
to meet. This is someone who knows your past and personality
intimately. Every detail, every thought and emotion you have
ever experienced, even your dreams and yes,
it is you!!
All
hypnosis is self hypnosis (despite the illusion portrayed by
stage hypnotists). This means that no one can hypnotise you
against your will. Alternatively at least around 80% of the
population can readily learn how to achieve the trance state
and go into hypnosis naturally and easily by themselves. Your
body is genetically encoded to survive. Everyone reading this
page is a success. Your genetic line continues to survive! You
are still here. Every day your immune system fights off infection
naturally without recourse to medication. How many times during
the past year have you cut or scratched yourself in a minor
way and apart from the assistance of a plaster or some disinfectant
you healed.
No
great miracle here you say, but extend that ability and we can
self heal at the highest levels. The power to do so resides
within your own mind. At a cellular level our body reacts to
the power of thought. Spend all day living with negative destructive
thoughts and hey presto! You don't feel so good. Do the opposite
and what do you know? You feel better, brighter, and fitter.
Thoughts
with feelings attached to them are known as emotions. These
emotions can either heal (positive ones) or slay us (negative
ones). Often we need to learn a way to view our emotional map
that is different and leads to a change within us. Achieving
this switch on your own can often prove difficult.
The
skilled and sympathetic clinical hypnotherapist can help facilitate
that trance-formation in
a simple, natural drug free way, which can complement any conventional
treatment you may be receiving. Remember hypnotherapy is not
a medical intervention it is a thinking intervention. That of
course is where the power lies, because we spend more time thinking
in our lives than doing anything else. Even our dreams are an
extension of our thoughts.
If you are considering hypnotherapy ask yourself these questions:
1. Am
I prepared to change the way I think and begin to extend and
broaden my mind to new ways of thinking.
2. Am
I ready to learn how to enter an altered state of consciousness
that will bring about very pleasant relaxed sensations (trance).
3. Am I ready to
change how I feel about my illness, relationships, habits (smoking,
drinking, eating or drugs), confidence, self worth, image, stress
levels, phobias and anything else that causes problems in my
life.
If
you find yourself saying yes to these questions then go to the
contact page and begin your healing journey-the rest is easy..

The Art of Hypnotherapy
Here
John comments on hypnotherapy as an art form.
"Is
hypnotherapy an art or a science? This is a debate often voiced
within hypnotherapy circles. My own belief is that it is both.
The recording of measurements and observations, within a therapy
session is in itself a scientific process. Secondly I see it
as an art form in so much as individual therapists often create
novel and exciting solutions to a vast array of perplexing personal
problems. The essence of art for me is the utilisation of observation
and learning in order to create. I study my clients to learn
from them and in order to create their own solutions for healing
from deep within."
Art
itself is well known for its therapeutic value. John's other
main pastime is painting (oil and watercolours). He is a firm
believer that good hypnotherapy is like painting. You can take
a rather dull and ordinary subject and produce something rather
interesting and beautiful from it.
