As
a hypnopsychotherapist John is able to offer more than just
hypnotherapy for the purposes of healing and change. Anyone
who has taken up a craft or a hobby will know only too well
that the more tools you have in your toolbox, the more scope
you have for fixing things or producing a variety of effects.
The same principle applies to therapy. Here are some techniques
usually considered to be talking therapies. They can bring about
change without the need to go into formal trance and hypnosis.
They can be used on their own or in combination with hypnosis:

RAPID
COGNITIVE THERAPY:
Aspects of this flexible brief therapy method (with thanks to
Philips and Watts) can be used with hypnotherapy or indeed in
a conversational style without the need for formal trance. Allows
for change through the use of imagery, symbolism, analytical
techniques and language patterns. How often in everyday conversation
have you heard someone say something along these lines? "Then
he said
and it suddenly all
clicked in to place and I knew what I had to do from then on"
NLP
(NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING):
Through the study of excellence in communication and therapy,
you can learn new habits and relearn thinking patterns. This
application of applied psychology can bring about rapid and
lasting change Again very little trance work is required other
than closing your eyes and visualising. Most of the change is
brought about through reframing your belief systems. Learn the
importance of creating your own inner world to boost your immune
system. Remember one of the most accurate predictors of how
long we are going to live can be the way we think. NLP provides
strategies for living, communicating, enhancing your mental
powers to bring back pleasure in to your life.
MERIDIAN
THERAPY:
A
fairly new therapy. As the name suggests it is connected to
the ancient Chinese art of Acupuncture. The connection is the
belief in the existence of energy channels in the body known
as meridians. No needles here though! The meridians or certain
points on the meridians are lightly tapped while certain phrases
are repeated. It is really a combination of Acupressure and
Psychotherapy designed to reduce trauma and feelings of discomfort
surrounding personal problems, habits, phobias, issues or reoccurring
memories. Meridian Therapy is an umbrella term for many techniques,
but perhaps the best known is Emotional Freedom Technique
(EFT). This was developed by Gary Craig a Stanford trained
engineer turned personal trainer/therapist. It is his Discovery
Statement: "The cause of all negative emotion is a disruption
in the body's energy system" that forms the basis of
this treatment. The procedure is designed to change and release
memories and thoughts connected with certain issues in order
to rebalance the energy system. It has become very popular with
modern therapists because of its rapid results, releasing phobias,
addictions (such as chocolate, and yes, sometimes smoking in
just one session.).
SEX THERAPY: Sex
and human relationships are a very important part of most people's
lives. Sexual problems call for special and sympathetic support.
Hypnotherapy and all of the above techniques can be utilised
to provide help to individuals and couples within the area of
sexual dysfunction. Early sexual experiences, our beliefs about
sex, performance anxiety and a lack of sensory awareness are
often contributing factors in sexual difficulties. Once a physical
cause has been ruled out, then naturally enough you are entitled
to say "Well it must all be in my mind". Unconscious
feelings of inadequacy, past emotional hurts or guilt around
sex can all contribute. Difficulty in this area can lead to
serious depression and exaggerated feelings of low self-esteem
and severe relationship difficulties. Consequently this type
of therapy can offer sympathetic and mature methods to release
fears and old negative messages you may hold in your unconscious
with regard to this problem. This extends to couples, and both
sexes (irrespective of personal sexual orientation) and includes
if required referral to a female therapist or the provision
of a chaperone service in the form of another therapist or a
close friend you can bring along to each session. Rest assured
you will find your sexual problems will be dealt with safely,
seriously, sympathetically, confidentially and professionally.
Many experienced therapists discover issues around sex occurring
when dealing with a whole range of seemingly unrelated problems.
Hence it is easy to identify a real need for people to receive
this kind of special support. All sorts of problems and issues
surround the natural function of sex and if clients can receive
a modern, open-minded, honest and judgement-free therapy, then
movement towards resolution of their problems can be swift and
satisfactory.

REIKI
AND BOWEN TECHNIQUE:
Having trained in both these body disciplines John surprises
many clients who have experienced these therapies by the intriguing
way he introduces aspects or moves into their hypnotherapy sessions.
This is done either conventionally at the start or just before
the close of a session or more unconventionally by having the
client visualise the movements taking place. This is necessary
when shifting certain problems that seem to have a bias toward
the body and it is done to speed up the healing process. This
is truly a mind/body therapy on offer.
