What is
Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy
is a form of therapy that utilises the state of hypnosis to gain
access to the inner mind or the subconscious thus by passing the
conscious mind. This natural phenomenon can be equated to a state
of very deep relaxation of the mind and body. During this procedure
the therapist will guide the client quietly and calmly into this
relaxed state and offers positive suggestions to help alleviate
the clients problem and bring about positive, lasting changes.
"If
the minds relaxed the body will follow"

I
like the sound of that but what if I can't be hypnotised?
Most
people can be hypnotised... if they want to be.
Hypnosis, via a second party (the hypnotherapist) as opposed to
self-hypnosis can only occur by mutual consent.
Nobody can be hypnotised against his or her will.
You
see on the telly hypnotists that appear to be controlling people's
actions
and thoughts and make them do silly things. Will you be controlling
me or make me do
silly things?
Absolutely
not.
Put it this way if hypnosis was such a strong controlling medium........
Imagine the following scenario! I think I'll pop down to my local
bank tomorrow for a private interview with the manager. I'm going
to hypnotise him and get him to give me all the money in the bank..
(Yeah right! I should be so lucky).
No; hypnotic stage shows are purely for entertainment and all
the parties are willing volunteers. If they didn't want to be
there they wouldn't have volunteered in the first place.
"Our
life is what our thoughts make it"
Marcus Aurelius
I'm
a bit concerned that I might say something silly and make a fool
of myself when I'm
under on in a trance.
Hypnotherapy
is not for public entertainment but solely for therapeutic purposes
for the greater good of the client. You can be assured that you
are in complete control over your thoughts and actions at all
times. Let me reiterate; hypnosis is consensual between the therapist
and the client. Additionally, anything that the therapist may
suggest that goes against your morals or principals can be completely
discarded by you. You always have the final say at all times.
You are perfectly at liberty to get up and walk out the door whenever
you want.
"No
one can make you feel inferior without your consent"
Eleanor Roosevelt
I've
tried speaking to some close friends about my problem but it's
hard to be completely honest in such personal matters. They probably
think I'm being stupid and I'm scared they might betray my confidence
albeit inadvertently or however well intentioned they may have
been.
Let
me first say that a problem that appears to one person as trivial
and petty can in fact be devastating to another and if left to
go unchecked can cause all sorts of misery for that persons quality
of life. Remember, "You are a unique and very special
person." are you not?
Confidentiality is of paramount importance and you can be assured
that the therapist will remain strictly objective, non-judgemental
and fully respect your confidence.
"The
person who says it can't be done is liable to be interrupted
by someone doing it."
