Boat of Garten is a very attractive village by the River Spey, surrounded by rolling farmland and forests with a mountain backdrop.

With that kind of recommendation one would think that this was enough for any place, but no, not for Boat of Garten, for added to that they offer a real Steam Railway Journey to thrill the hearts of the older, and, just thrill, the younger generation. Now I'm a steam railway fanatic so if I go a little overboard you will understand.

This is the experience of a lifetime, to ride the rails with the windows down, steam and smoke blowing in the face, the swaying carriage and clickety click of the wheels on the line, what more could anyone ever want.

So, for the sane as well as the others among you the line goes all the way to Aviemore and you can eat on the train into the bargain, don't miss it.

There are good walks from the village into the surrounding country where the scenery is so breathtaking, so take lots of film for the camera.

At nearby Loch Garten there's the Osprey Centre for the chance of viewing these magnificent birds of prey. Mention the word loch and there must be fishing and so there is, and it's good.
A challenging round of golf can be had from the village and nearby Nethy Bridge.
Castle Roy and Nethy Bridge are not far up the road and are well worth a visit not only for golf.

A smashing place for a holiday.
