Findochty
along with its neighbour Portknockie were busy fishing communities
in times past. Today they are resorts with their picturesque harbours
and wonderful views of the firth. The harbours of both places still
have a few fishing boats and lots of smaller craft using their facilities.
These are popular places with visitors who seem to love photographing
them.
Both have many
tales to tell of the exploits of the brave men and women who sailed
the seas to bring food to our tables. Today many of their young men
still venture onto those unforgiving waters just as their fathers before
them. To visit such places brings home the dangers of the life these
people led, and still lead, for these are communities in the old sense,
where everyone had that kindred feeling, one for another, so lacking
in our society nowadays.
For the anglers
there's plenty sea fishing from the harbour or rocks and sometimes boat
trips if they are available. For the golfers there's an abundance of
courses in the near vicinity offering a real challenge.
For the walkers lots of exploring is to be done, with terrific views
to be had, so take plenty of film with you.
