Cawdor, a
village and castle made famous by Shakespeare
in the world famous play ' Macbeth '.
In the play, not
too far in, Macbeth is made Thane
of Cawdor after his victory over an army of rebels who had tried
to overthrow King Duncan. The previous
Thane had set his stall out with the rebels and was to pay the price
with his life. Thus the prophecy given to Macbeth by the
Three Witches had in part come true.
The present castle
is the seat of the Earl of Cawdor and is a magnificent building
although not the one potrayed in the play. It is well worth a visit
for the grounds and gardens alone. A good day out is guaranteed for
all the family.
The village itself,
with a population of around six hundred, is a peacefully laid back place,
with lovely houses and gardens and that's how the locals like it.
