Banff

Town

Banff, the town across the bridge from Macduff is the regions' centre of Government as well as being a very attractive holiday spot.
In past times it had a castle stronghold to protect the locals from the Viking incursions, which occurred frequently along the Moray coast. The castle, now only remains , was once a royal residence, and, the district, a Royal Burgh whose charters date from the twelfth century.
The town's showpiece house was designed by William Adam around 1735 and is just one of many fine buildings in the area.
Fishing is one industry which still carries on, though not on the scale of past times, although having said that, Macduff across the bridge still has a busy fleet. Other businesses include iron founding, whisky distilling, beer brewing and of course tourism.

The Colleonard Sculpture Gardens is a favourite with visitors and there's also a museum of great interest in the town. The view of the Firth from above the town is quite awesome and a must for some good camera work. The shops are many and varied and are popular with visitors from afar.
