Ballater
is a busy little place with not a few shops and the first thing you
notice about them is that nearly all sport a Coat of Arms with the words
'By Appointment' for all to see. Now if I told you that the Queen's
Guard are based at Ballater would that give you a clue as to the
signs on the shops. It has been known for a certain Royal Family
to do the odd bit of shopping in the village so there's another clue
as to the popularity of the place.
Apart from that,
Ballater is a good starting point for expeditions to places like Lochnagar,
Glen Muick and Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve. All this is great
country for walking and rambling and should not be missed. The surrounding
scenery is quite magnificent so take plenty of film.
To the east of the region are some interesting places such as Dinnet,
Logie Coldstone, Tarland, Aboyne and many
more all worthy of a visit.
Fishing and
golf among others can be had in the region.
For eats there are
Hotel, Restaurant and Cafe facilities on hand at reasonable prices.
Hotels, Guesthouses, Caravan and Camping facilities are available.
Travel is by bus,
coach or car.
For the tourists from abroad the nearest airports are Aberdeen
with a connection by bus, coach or car only, Glasgow with an air or
rail connection to Aberdeen and on as above, Edinburgh
with a connection by air or rail to Aberdeen and on as above.
