Aberlour
lies on the River Spey to the south west of Elgin,
by Rothes and Craigellachie. It is a
busy little place deep in ' Whisky Country '. Apart from the
distilleries, of which there are quite a few, agriculture and some other
light industries plus a ' well kent ' bakery company make up the local
economy.
The town is a bustling
place in the summer with tourists attracted to the area for the many
open visitor centres. With its surrounding villages such as Craigellachie,
Ballindalloch, Archiestown and Carron there's much to see and do.
Being on the Spey, one of the UK's greatest salmon rivers, fishing is
the major sport, but not the only one for there is never a golf course
very far away and so it is here.
Castle hunters will be very pleased for the area has as many as one
wants to look for.
There's an abundance
of eating establishments from Hotels, Restaurants and Cafes all serving
good local fayre.
Hotels, Guesthouses, Caravan and Camping sites are available.
