Aberdeenshire

Aberdeen City

Morayshire

Aberdeen a northern maritime seaport was created a royal burgh in 1124. The noise of the gulls is ever present as you are never far from the seafront, and it seems that from any street corner one can see the harbour. It's a bustling city, full of vibrancy, with it's many wonderful shops, restaraunts and cafes. It is estimated that there are 600 retail outlets in the city centre square mile which also boasts of at least 6 indoor shopping malls. The main shopping areas are around the Union and George Streets. To schoolchildren Aberdeen is known the world over as the ' Granite City ', to others the ' Silver City '. Aberdeen also has a university which adds to the population a great variety of colour and language. The city also is the base for the North Sea oil industry which has brought a great deal of prosperity to the area.

For those interested in gardening the city offers visitors the chance to see one of the largest covered enclosures in Europe containing the most wonderful blooms at the Winter Gardens in the Duthie Park .

The University's Cruikshank Botanic Garden is another must. For the children a visit to the maze at Hazlehead is a chance to lose their parents for an hour or two.

For those interested in architecture with a little history thrown in, Marischal College, His Majesty's Theatre and St. Machar's Cathedral are the places to see. The ancient fishing village of Footdee can instill an air of the past and is well worth a visit.

For music lovers Aberdeen is no slouch when it comes to "raisin a shindig". There are the clasical concerts, folk music evenings, and a host of modern style gigs on just about every evening somewhere in the city.

For the fishing fraternity one doesn't have to travel far to dangle that line in the water, because a good day out can be had at the riverside or the harbour or even on the beach. Many a time the small local lads have put me to shame showing off their day's haul.

I hope that the things mentioned above, and there are many more, can bring out a desire in you to pay us a visit. For my own part, my visits to Old Aberdeen bring back many fond memories.

For eats there are Hotel, restaurant and cafe facilities at reasonable prices.
Hotel, guesthouse, caravan and camping facilities are available.

Travel is by bus or coach.
For the tourists from abroad Aberdeen has its own airport. Glasgow and Ediburgh both connect with Aberdeen by air, rail, bus or coach.
